Bigmouth Bertie is still getting it wrong

Tuesday December 01 2009

He was called the Teflon Taoiseach in his day, but Bertie's halo has not just slipped but shattered these days. He used to blame the entire recession on people talking the economy down. But, in fact, it was his overly enthusiastic optimism about the property bubble that got us where we are in the first place.

Well, he's at it again. Just last week he trumpeted the wonder of the Dubai property market, calling it "extraordinary" economic success less than a week before the entire shebang collapsed, leaving thousands of property investors, including many Irish, left stranded in the desert state without a camel. Perhaps he'd be better off spending his time tending to those hanging baskets before he makes any more daft utterings.
