Young woman dies and friend serious in crash

A YOUNG woman was killed and her friend seriously injured in an early morning crash in Dublin.

The 24-year-old driver of a car died after hitting a ditch on the Blessington Road, outside Tallaght, just shortly after midnight.

Her 21-year-old passenger, was seriously injured and was undergoing emergency treatment in hospital today.

It is understood she suffered serious head injuries and was said to be in a serious condition in Tallaght hospital.

Garda said it was a single- vehicle collision and the road was closed off for several hours today as a Garda investigation got under way.

The collision took place just before 12.10 am and the car was travelling towards Dublin.

Meanwhile a 41-year-old man was due to appear in court in Cork today following a collision on Thursday night in which two teenagers died.

Sixteen-year-old CJ Dolan and 19-year-old Derry O'Callaghan, from Knocknaheeny, were passengers in a Ford Mondeo which was in collision with a Volkswagen Golf at Harbour View Road.

Two men were arrested but one, aged 21, was released last night without charge.
