Pat Kenny was on hand to launch his radio colleague Ivan Yates' warts-and-all autobiography, Full On.

Famous faces from the world of politics and broadcasting turned out to the swanky event in the Marker Hotel to lend their support to the former Fine Gael minister turned businessman and Newstalk Breakfast presenter.

He said that despite the turnout, this will be his first and last foray into the literary field.

Ministers Leo Varadkar, Frances Fitzgerald and Richard Bruton turned out, as did former political rival Charlie McCreevy of Fianna Fail.

Others there included former TV Apprentice boss Bill Cullen with his partner Jackie Lavin, economist Eddie Hobbs, RTE's Sean O'Rourke and Yates' breakfast sidekick Chris Donoghue.

The author's wife Deirdre and daughters Ciara and Sarah also posed for photographs at the event in Grand Canal Square.

"It was a voyage of discovery but I definitely don't intend to write another book," Mr Yates told the Herald.

"This was very much a once-off kind of thing. I had no idea how exposed I would feel."

crisis

The book charts Mr Yates' life from his childhood in Enniscorthy and early entry into politics to the financial difficulties he experienced with the demise of his betting shops chain, Celtic Bookmakers.

He served as agriculture minister in the 1990s when he had to deal with the mad cow disease crisis, and the book provides insight into the backroom machinations of the Rainbow Government.

Pat Kenny described it as "a remarkably frank autobiography".

"I could never write a memoir, so I fully applaud and admire anyone does so," he said.

"There's the making of a TV series in this. Trust me."

Mr Yates added: "It's definitely not a banal autobiography.

"But I stand over everything I have written."

He will hold a second launch in the Ferrycarrig Hotel in his old Wexford constituency on Monday.
