Woman punches and spits on man during daylight attack on O'Connell Street

A woman attacked and spat on a man during an incident on O'Connell Street.

The woman, who appeared to be in her 50s,  crossed the road to attack the man whom she then spit on while being dragged away on Parnell Street.

The incident was captured on video.

The incident happened at the close to the junction of O'Connell Street and Parnell Street,  across from the AIB bank and close to the Rotunda and Ambassador.

Passers-by were shocked by the incident which saw the woman rain a series of punches on the man, and strike him with her handbag a number of times.

She also verbally abused and spat at the man, before she was dragged off him and brought down Parnell Steet.

A man in a brown jumper who accompanied the woman tried to pull her away from the scene twice, while a woman with a buggy also intervened to aid the man.

O'Connell Street is Dublin's main thoroughfare - hundreds of thousands of commuters and tourists are on the street on a daily basis.
