Woman on crutch is viciously assaulted

A WOMAN who needed a crutch to walk was viciously assaulted while out with her dog.

The victim, who is in her late 30s, was walking in the Blakestown Way area of Blanchardstown when she came across the man who was dressed in a dark-coloured hoody.

She was attacked by the man, aged in his 20s, and severely assaulted.

A passing taxi driver stopped and went to the woman's aid.

The intervention of the taxi driver caused the assailant to flee the scene.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which they said could have been much more serious if the unknown taxi driver had not intervened.

They are particularly interested in speaking with the driver.

The attacker has been described as 6ft tall, with a Dublin accent and a chipped left front tooth.

As well as the hoody he was wearing jeans.

The attack happened close to the N3 flyover which is within walking distance of Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward and contact them if they saw anything suspicious or have any information.
