Why Dublin model Jenny Drea has her designs on the world of fashion

Most models are used to just showcasing high fashion creations, but Dublin beauty Jenny Drea has her sights set on stepping off the catwalk and into the designer's studio.

The young Dubliner (21) is a familiar face on the Irish modelling circuit since signing with Morgan The Agency at the tender age of 16, and while she loves getting in front of the camera, Jenny's main focus is becoming a successful fashion designer.

It seems the Ranelagh native is on the right path as she has just returned to Ireland to complete her final year of fashion design studies in NCAD after spending the summer working with US designer Timo Weiland in New York.

"I just came back at the weekend and was back to college on Monday so I was straight back in the swing of things," Jenny told the Diary.

"I was working with them as they were producing their current line and while they were preparing for fashion week, so it was great to see the different sides of the business."

Along with working behind the scenes for the designer, Jenny also put her modelling experience into practice for the trendy brand as she stepped out to showcase some of their designs for buyers.

"It was really interesting to see their reactions to the collection," Jenny said.

Now she's back on home turf, Jenny's attention has turned to getting her degree behind her.

"For our final project we do six outfits which will be presented in an exhibition and fashion show. I've modelled in the show since I was quite young and I had some of my designs in it last year, so it was really weird to have the crossover. I'm looking forward to getting some of my friends to show off my collection," she said.

One of the pals the single brunette is referring to is her "other half", jet-set Irish model January Winters.

"We're a package deal - we're always together on jobs. I think whoever rings up to book one of us knows at this stage they're going to get the other, too," Jenny said jokingly.

Much like January, who recently returned to Dublin after a stint in modelling capital Milan, Jenny is eager to spread her wings and travel further with her work.

"I'll be firmly stuck in Dublin for the next few months while I'm getting everything done for college but when I finish I'd love to travel," she said.

"I think I'd like to go abroad with modelling but, ultimately, fashion design is the goal," she said.
