Whiskey distillery opens in Liberties
Whiskey has been produced in Dublin's Liberties for the first time in 39 years at the new Teeling Whiskey Distillery.
Production is up and running again after a €10m investment in the distillery and visitor centre in the Newmarket area of the Liberties. It is the first new distillery in Dublin, once a major hub for distillation, in 125 years.
The drink will now be matured for three years. The distillery, founded in 2012, is due to open its doors to visitors in May of this year.
Founder and managing director Jack Teeling said that thanks to its new distillery, the company has complete control of all aspects of its whiskey production, from grain to bottle.
"This is a huge milestone in the story of Teeling Whiskey," he said. "It has taken three years of planning, hard work and significant capital investment, but Teeling Whiskey is finally home."
