Wallace takes early leave from Dail to attend matches in Brazil
Independent TD Mick Wallace is not due holidays from the Dail until July 17, but reports have emerged that he was in Brazil for the World Cup.
The Wexford TD has been to every single World Cup since 1982 except for one tournament, and it now looks like he has attended the 2014 tournament as well.
He has not spoken in the Dail since June 18 but has been busy on Twitter keeping his followers up to date on World Cup developments.
While Mr Wallace was unavailable yesterday when the Herald attempted to contact him - his phone was diverted to his Dail office.
A source close to Mr Wallace said that the TD had told him he had tickets to some of the World Cup matches.
"I thought he was going over for a few games," said the source.
Mr Wallace is a keen supporter of Wexford Youths and has worn Italian football club jerseys in the Dail.
His choice of clothing in Leinster House has led to some parliamentarians calling for a mandatory dress code.
