Vodka thief 'hanging about with bad crowd'
A YOUNG man who stole a bottle of vodka from a supermarket was hanging around with a bad crowd at the time, a court heard.
Geoffrey Melia (24) claimed he is no longer associating with the same group and has stopped drinking.
Judge Dermot Dempsey fined him €200.
The defendant, of Abbeylea Green, Swords, admitted before Swords District Court to stealing a bottle of vodka worth €22 from Dunnes Stores, Castlemills Shopping Centre, Balbriggan, last March 28.
Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said the theft only happened because Melia was drunk and hanging around with the wrong group of people.
She said he is currently completing a security course and hopes to get work in that area in the future
