The Boys in Blue were given a hero's welcome when they took the Sam Maguire Cup to a gala dinner celebration at Dublin's Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless People.

The All-Ireland winner and All-Ireland final Man of the Match Michael Fitzsimons (26) was mobbed by the delighted crowd as he strode into the centre with the trophy.

Joining him were fellow Dubs Ciaran Kilkenny, Paul Mannion and Con O'Callaghan.

As he patiently gave autographs and posed for selfies with the clients, the big-hearted football star said he was more than happy to fill the shoes of former Dublin player Rory O'Carroll.

O'Carroll was a regular volunteer at the centre before emigrating to New Zealand this year.
