Venice's charm comes at a price

The wildly inflated prices paid by tourists in Venice have long been a source of consternation and irritation.

Now the difference between what visitors and locals are charged in the lagoon city has been reported to the European Commission as "unfair discrimination". A tourist of joint Italian and Belgian nationality put together a dossier highlighting the tourist/local price differences, including Venice's Wi-Fi service (€5/free), water buses (€7/€1.30), and public toilets (€1.50/25c).
