Vardy wife 'caged and tear gassed' in violence
Rebekah Vardy, the wife of England footballer Jamie Vardy, was caught up in a tear gas attack during the violence around Saturday's Euro 2016 match between England and Russia.
French, English and Russian football fans caused violent scenes in Marseille, which carried on into yesterday morning.
Troubling images showed the footballer's wife shielding herself from the gas as she was led to safety.
Jamie Vardy did not make it off the bench during the game, which ended in a 1-1- draw.
"That has to be up there with the worst experience EVER at an away game! Tear gassed for no reason, caged and treated like animals! Shocking!" Ms Vardy wrote on Twitter.
"I witnessed this with my own eyes! I can't comment on things I didn't see but what I got caught up in was horrific and uncalled for! And this was before the game even kicked-off!"
Responding to a sceptical tweet from Piers Morgan, she wrote: "Mr Morgan . . . a fact! They closed the gates so the fans couldn't get through then tear gassed us!"
