Unemployed man accused of robbing cab driver at gunpoint

aN UNEMPLOYED man has been accused of robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint and threatening to shoot him in an incident in Dublin at the weekend.

Sean Ducque (31) appeared in Dublin District Court on charges arising from an alleged robbery in the north inner city on Sunday.

Judge Ann Watkin refused bail and remanded him in custody for a week.

Mr Ducque, with an address at Cloonlara Crescent, Finglas, is charged with robbing the taxi driver at Terrace Place, Dublin 1, on October 26.

He is also accused of possession of a firearm in the same incident.

caution

Sgt Enda O'Sullivan told the court Mr Ducque was arrested at Mountjoy Garda Station at 1pm yesterday.

He was charged at 2.24pm and made no reply to the first count after caution. To the second, he said "I had no shotgun on me".

Sgt O'Sullivan said he was objecting to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the charges and the nature of the proposed evidence against the defendant.

The court heard that a taxi driver picked up a man after 7pm.

It was alleged that the defendant robbed him with a firearm, threatening to shoot him.

There was an internal CCTV camera in the taxi which recorded video and audio.

The footage allegedly "showed clothes" of an individual and the accused was arrested four feet away from a shotgun, the court heard.

Applying for bail, defence solicitor Edward Bradbury said the accused enjoyed a presumption of innocence and was prepared to abide by bail conditions.

Judge Watkin said the charges were serious and refused to grant bail. She remanded the defendant in custody to appear in Cloverhill District Court on November 4, for the directions of the DPP to be made available.

The judge granted free legal aid after hearing Mr Ducque was unemployed.

A statement of his financial means was handed in to court.

The defendant, wearing a light grey zip-up sweater and dark grey tracksuit bottoms, did not address the court during the hearing.
