Two men lose their lives in road tragedies
Two men have been killed in separate road accidents overnight.
One man died after falling from a horse-drawn cart near the Sugar Loaf mountain in Co Wicklow late yesterday evening.
The 44-year-old was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital by ambulance but later died from his injuries.
The accident happened on Red Lane, Calary, Kilmacanogue, at around 8.15pm.
Gardai are investigating how the man ended up on the road and have carried out an examination of the scene. They are also appealing to any witnesses who might be able to clarify if the horse was spooked or if anything on the road surface was a contributing factor.
The scene was preserved as garda forensic collision investigators carried out an assessment.
Traffic diversions were also put in place.

Meanwhile, also in Co Wicklow, a motorcyclist in his 30s was killed when he and a second motorcyclist collided with a jeep on the N81 in the townland of Poulaphuca in Blessington last night. The crash happened at 9.15pm.
The 33-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Naas General Hospital, where a post mortem was due to take place today.
The second male motorcyclist, a 49-year-old man, was also rushed by ambulance to Naas General Hospital with serious injuries.
The female driver of the jeep, aged 61, was taken to Tallaght Hospital with minor injuries.
The scene was preserved and garda forensic collision investigators were due travel to the scene today.
Diversions were also put in place while the road was closed.
