Friends and family of a tragic teenager who died after she collapsed outside a Dublin nightclub gathered today to bid a final farewell.

The remains of Ana Hick, who would have celebrated her 19th birthday yesterday, were brought to the Church of the Assumption, Dalkey this afternoon.

Tearful friends and former classmates of the Dublin teenager gathered at the church to say goodbye to the much-loved teenager.

Yesterday evening, they filed into a Glasthule funeral home to say goodbye to the vibrant and loving girl who died on Sunday after collapsing outside a nightclub.

She passed away as gardaí investigated reports that she had taken ecstasy tablets while on a night out with friends in the Twisted Pepper venue on Middle Abbey Street.

From noon yesterday, Ana was laid out in her coffin in Quinn's funeral home in Glasthule.

There were emotional scenes when Ana's mother, Elga, was embraced on the street and she tried to give words of support to her only child's peers.

Shortly after midday, her friends from school started to arrive. Some of the girls who attended the funeral home wore their wine-coloured Loreto of Dalkey Class of 2014 fleece tops.

Then they emerged after a while, holding each other, crying, hugging in groups, scarcely able to believe that Ana was gone.

They comforted each other and shared their pain and their stories.

On Monday night, friends of the drama student had gathered at the Irish Film Academy in Temple Bar to remember her.

Her father Tim also travelled from the US to say goodbye.

Ana's final journey to the Church of the Assumption in Dalkey will take place this morning, followed by burial at Shanganagh Cemetery.
