Thug arrested again over savage killing
Detectives have re-arrested a dangerous north inner city criminal in relation to the savage murder of a gangster in Tallaght.
Armed officers swooped on the 24-year-old this morning and brought him to Tallaght Garda Station where he was being questioned about the slaying of Michael 'Mad Mickey' Devoy (pictured).
Sources said that the arrested man was previously closely associated with Devoy (41) and last November he was arrested and released without charge in relation to the same investigation.
The Dublin man is the only suspect to be arrested in the case. Devoy's body was riddled with bullets before it was discovered on the side of the road in Bohernabreena, Co Dublin, on the night of January 18, 2014.
A senior source told the Herald: "The man in custody is a heavy hitter in terms of organised crime and he was very pally with Devoy. He is involved in extortion, debt collection and is associated with Provos."
'Mad Mickey' was murdered shortly after his release from Portlaosie Prison. One theory is that he was shot dead because of the botched hit on heroin trafficker Greg Lynch three months earlier.
Gardai later discovered that the same mob who murdered Devoy also planned to whack two Ballymun-based brothers who were friendly with the murder victim.
Mad Mickey's brother Derek 'Bottler' Devoy (32) was released from prison in February and later fled to the UK amid major concerns that the murder gang would also try to kill him.
Last week, the Herald revealed that gardai seized €100,000 that 'Bottler' had in a bank account, which he had planned to use to set himself up in a new base in England.
