IRISH business owners rank third most pessimistic in the world, according to new findings.

The survey, carried out by consultancy group Grant Thornton, found that only Spanish and Japanese businesses were more negative than Ireland.

However, the report found that privately owned businesses in Ireland were the second most optimistic in the world on the outlook for exports in 2011.

German and Irish businesses shared joint second in expectations for exports in 2011 while Turkey had the highest optimistic level. Pat Burke, a partner in Grant Thornton, said there was growing optimism globally on the export front in general.
