Veteran TV host Terry Wogan is set to make a cameo appearance in popular comedy Moone Boy next week.

The award-winning TV show, which is penned by Chris O'Dowd and Nick Vincent Murphy, is set in Chris' home town of Boyle, Co Roscommon, and follows the hilarious antics of Martin Moone and his imaginary friend.

In the episode, Martin Moone, played by young star David Rawle, and his best friend Padraic (Ian O'Reilly) attempt to rig a video clip to submit to a popular TV show.

The show, which is called You've Been Framed To Look Like a Big Feckin' Eejit, is hosted by Wogan, who is playing himself, and the boys try to rig the video in a bid to secure the £250 fee offered for every clip shown on the programme.

Meanwhile, Martin's sister Fidelma - played by Dubliner Clare Monnelly - her husband Dessie (Ronan Raftery) and baby Rose have moved in with the Moones, which causes an uncomfortable overcrowding situation involving night terrors, a donkey in a bedroom, and questionable bathroom etiquette.

While season three of the show continues to air on Sky One, the rumour mill has been in overdrive about the possibility of a Moone Boy movie.

Clare recently said she has no problem hounding Chris to get moving on penning a script for the silver screen.

"The kids [in the show] are getting that bit older so I think there is scope for a movie now," she told the Herald.

"Hopefully Chris and Nick can fit it into their busy schedules sometime in the future. I'll have to start hounding them now to get the ball rolling."

The show has also been nominated for Best Scripted Comedy at the Royal Television Society Awards, which take place in the UK on St Patrick's Day.

Other Irish nominees include Baz Ashmawy's 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy which is up for Best Popular Factual and Features Award, and The Graham Norton Show is nominated for Best Entertainment Award.

Moone Boy airs on Sky 1 on Mondays at 9pm
