Teenage truant attacked mum

A TEENAGER who attacked his mother when she discovered he had been playing truant has been ordered to take part in a range of restorative justice activities for the next six months.

The boy (aged 16) had pleaded guilty at the Children's Court in April to assaulting his mother at their north Dublin home on a date in March last year. His case had been adjourned until yesterday for a probation report to be furnished to the court.

Judge Heather Perrin had heard that gardai were called to the boy's home and learned that the then 15-year-old pressed his arm against his mother's chest and pinned her against a piece of furniture.

The case was adjourned until November.

Video shows abuse of cows

An animal welfare group has said a video it shot shows workers at an Ohio dairy farm beating cows with crowbars and stabbing them with pitchforks.

The Chicago-based nonprofit group Mercy For Animals said the video was recorded in an undercover investigation at Conklin Dairy Farms Inc.

The Plain City, Ohio-based company said it won't condone animal abuse. It said the video shows animal care inconsistent with the high standards it has set for its farm.
