TCD library 'like a Disney movie' says travel bible
VISITING the Trinity College Long Room library is "like you stepped directly into a Disney movie", according to a top travel magazine.
A stroll round home of the world-famous Book of Kells has been voted one of the "50 things to do in Europe before you die", according to Conde Nast Traveler.
They have ranked the attraction alongside catching an opera in Vienna, afternoon tea at Claridge's in London, and sailing around the island of Capri.
Hopping the stones of the Giant's Causeway in Co Antrim has also made the coveted list.
"Aside from having an incredibly beautiful campus, Dublin's Trinity College also houses the famous Book of Kells, a 9th-century manuscript, penned by monks in amazingly intricate fonts and illustrations," the travel bible's writers said.
"When you're done perusing, a visit to the library's Long Room is an absolute must -you'll feel like you stepped directly into a Disney movie."
The publication's writers are equally generous with their praise of the Giant's Causeway, describing the natural wonder as "like nothing you've seen before".
"The shoreline here is covered in hexagonal-shaped grey stones formed from basalt.
"It's not unusual to see kids and adults alike skipping from stone to stone or climbing the hill-like formations. These simple stones will remind you of how breathtaking Nature can truly be - and, if that's not enough for you, the Bushmills Distillery is not too far away."
It seems Ireland can do little wrong in the eyes of Conde Nast Traveler these days.
The same publication recently ranked Dublin in fifth place in a new poll of the planet's top 24 shopping destinations, behind Barcelona, Philadelphia, Hong Kong and Chicago.
Dublin was also named one of the world's friendliest cities recently by the magazine.
Ballymaloe House in East Cork recently earned a position on the publication's coveted 'Gold List 2015' as one of the world's top hotels, while more recently the magazine's readers placed Dublin in the Top 10 best beer-drinking cities in Europe.
