Taxi driver robber is jailed
A young Finglas man who robbed a taxi driver and attempted to rob another over a two-day period has received an 18-month sentence on top of a recently reactivated two-year suspended sentence.
John McKeown (22) pulled a screwdriver on the men at Berryfield Road, Finglas, and told them to hand over money.
He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to robbing €100 from David Dunne on January 8, 2010 and assaulting and attempting to rob Darren Farrell on January 9, 2010. McKeown, of Virginia Drive, Finglas, also pleaded guilty to unlawful taking of a vehicle at Glenhill Court, Finglas on March 16, 2010.

Scientists in the US have found that blocking an appetite protein in the brain can transform body fat.
The "white" fat which acts as a storehouse for calories is turned into energy-burning "brown" fat which helps prevent weight gain.
Although the research was conducted on rats, scientists at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, believe it may point the way to a new anti-obesity strategy.
Five headless corpses found
Police in Mexico City found five decapitated bodies with messages from drug gangs.
Four of the bodies were found in a car. Their heads were nearby.
Another decapitated body was found yesterday in another suburb in two plastic bags. At both sites police found messages signed "HCC," a reference to a drug gang.
Fame is crazy, says Pattinson
Twilight star Robert Pattinson has admitted he is overwhelmed by his own celebrity after thousands of fans queued for 13 hours to greet him with screams at his latest film premiere.
The 24-year-old British actor was joined by co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz on the red carpet at a shopping centre in London for the premiere of circus love story Water For Elephants.
"It's nuts!" said Pattinson.
"It's weird, but it can be fun. I used to go shopping in this place and now it's crazy."
