Student attacked and kicked in face

A TEENAGER has admitted assaulting a student who had his nose broken when he was kicked in the face on a night out in Dublin City centre.

Supermarket worker Gary Lynch (19) carried out a "vicious" assault on the victim, who was making his way home, singing football songs with friends when he was struck without warning from behind.

Enda Gaffney was trying to crawl to safety when he was then kicked in the face, fracturing his nose.

Lynch was told he would have to pay €1,000 and carry out community service to avoid a jail sentence.

The accused, of McKee Park, Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin 7 pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing harm to Mr Gaffney in an incident on Liffey Street Lower, Dublin 1.

Garda Karl Colgan told Dublin District Court Mr Gaffney was sitting by the side of the road holding his face, which was covered in blood and badly swollen.
