The latest player to fall out with the Italian is striker Shane Long, whom Trap branded an "idiot" before doing his odd jig. The 73-year-old used his 'dance' to harshly criticise Long, who had claimed he was fit to play in Wednesday's friendly against Serbia.
Speaking at a press conference in the Clarion Hotel in Dublin yesterday, Trap responded to the latest controversy to dog his tenure as Ireland manager.
"Now he says he is fit. That is idiot. It's idiot. It's idiot. He's not a baby, I can't run after children," lashed Trapattoni.
The controversy began after Ireland's toothless 0-0 display against the Serbs in Belgrade during the week. The Irish attacker was named in the starting line-up but Trapattoni drafted in Simon Cox at the last minute, much to the Tipperary man's dismay.
As he was leaving the stadium that night, Long complained to reporters that he felt that he was fit to play. He clearly was not fit enough for the Italian and it was these comments that the animated manager took issue with.
Trapattoni explained how the West Brom striker pulled up in a training match with a calf complaint and that Long's insistence that he was fit to play was idiotic.
