Street light move to save €3.6m

energy

Dublin City Council is planning to improve the energy efficiency of its street lights by making more use of Light Emitting Diodes (LED).

The current Low Pressure Sodium (SOX) lanterns that DCC provides to light the city consume approximately 22,000,000 units of electricity annually, which can be reduced by introducing LED lanterns to make public lighting more efficient and by adopting other energy saving methods.

The current cost of public lighting in the capital is about €3.6m per year.
