Some of the UK's biggest soap names are enjoying life in the fast lane after arriving in Dublin for a luxury car event.

The Point Village was awash with fancy vehicles as 190 entrants, including Coronation Street stars Ryan Thomas and Bruno Langley, made it the biggest Cannonball event to date.

Excited

The cars will be driven 900km around Ireland, and proceeds will go to Pieta House.

Thomas, whose character, Jason, left the soap last June, said it was his third time taking part and he can't wait to get back into the driving seat. He was looking forward to showing his former co-star and on-screen brother the ropes.

"I'm so excited to be here and I'm bringing a virgin -it's Bruno, he's coming on the Cannonball for the first time. I've given him a few tips - drive very fast," he said.

The pair were joined by some well-known Irish faces, with businessman Wes Quirke among those who jazzed up his style for the popular event.

He had a head start when it came to fashion choices, given he is married to top model and former Miss World Rosanna Davison.

The car enthusiast raised a few smiles when he turned up at the launch dressed as a flapper. He wore a little blue sequinned dress teamed with a yellow designer handbag, which he had borrowed from his wife.

"It's her bag but the dress is my own. She did get up early to help me with my make-up, though. I think she did a great job," he said.

The annual fundraising race around Ireland is in its seventh year, and Quirke said he has entered with his purple Lamborghini every year - along with his TV star brother Andy - who opted for a little pink number and blonde wig.
