Shocking number of addicts in treatment

The treatment plan administered to heroin addicts by the HSE is continuing to spiral every year.

The number of heroin addicts in treatment in Ireland continues to rise despite the spend on the programme designed to help people get off drugs.

In 2013 the cost of the medication, the pharmacies that dispense it, and GP fees associated with providing services to addicts, was €19.3m, rising from more than €18m in 2012, and €17m in 2011.
