Scottish is best accent in a crisis
The Scots accent has come top in a poll of the most reassuring voices to hear in times of emergency, it was revealed.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) conducted the survey asking 2,000 people across Britain which accent is most soothing in a crisis.
Scots received almost a fifth of votes, beating the Geordie, Irish and Welsh accents. Estuary English, which is spoken in the Thames area, came second with 15pc of votes.
Robbie Coull, a volunteer crew member from Aberdeen, said: "It's good to know that people find the Scottish accent calming during an emergency.
"However, I hope that people find comfort knowing that, no matter what the accent, RNLI lifeboat crews are ready to respond to the call for help from people in trouble out at sea.''
From January to June, the RNLI responded to 3,621 SOS calls in Britain and Ireland, saving more than 138 lives.
The poll was conducted as part of the charity's SOS fundraising campaign.
The top five are: 1. Scottish 2. Estuary English 3. Republic of Ireland 4. Geordie 5. Welsh
