Scaffolder tried to stop gardai seizing car

A SCAFFOLDER came running out of a house and tried to jump into a car which gardai were seizing for non-payment of tax, a court heard.

Richard Cooney (24) told gardai "you'll seize f**kin nothing".

Judge David McHugh fined him €250.

The defendant, of Berryfield Drive in Finglas, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to threatening and abusive behaviour and driving without road tax at Dunsink Drive, Finglas, on January 29.

Garda David King said the tax was out of date in September 2013.

Defence lawyer Jennifer Jackson said Cooney "over-reacted" because he didn't know why the car was being seized.

She said he bought the car in October 2013 and has since paid the back tax.
