SAOIRSE full of praise for borstal boy

Top actress Saoirse Ronan has said that seeing Borstal Boy at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin has made her feel proud to be an Irish actress.

Ronan went to see Brendan Behan's play that stars Love/Hate's Peter Coonan and Gary Lydon on Saturday night.

Taking to Twitter after the play, she wrote: "Try and go see Borstal Boy if you get a chance. Gaiety Theatre. A great production of a wonderful play.

"Made me proud(er) to not only be Irish, but to be able to call myself an actress from this country," she continued.

The Academy Award nominee has recently finished filming Brooklyn, which was shot in Wexford, Dublin and Montreal and is based on Colm Tobin's best-selling novel.

Tobin has said that Saoirse is "absolutely extraordinary" in the lead role.

"It's very, very emotional. It's the first time I suppose she's doing a part as a lead actress as an adult on her own and she's absolutely extraordinary," he said.

He also said there was wonderful chemistry between her and Domhnall Gleeson who plays Saoirse's love interest in the film.
