Residents have started installing CCTV cameras into their homes to protect against the rise in burglaries in the area.

There were a number of thefts from cars in Glencullen and Sandyford village in the last four weeks, as well as burglaries and vehicle thefts.

With the reduced police presence in the area due to the closure of Stepaside garda station, locals have now taken it upon themselves to protect their properties.

Neighbourhood Watch groups are also starting alongside the installation of CCTV cameras.

Last Wednesday, a black van with a 2008 registration plate was seen driving suspiciously around the Ballybetagh Road area. The same vehicle had been seen in the area in March.

The van left Glencullen in the direction of Kilternan and was seen in Rathmichael later in the evening.
