Rose Maria to end reign by running and cycling to Tralee
Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh looks set to swap her crown for a cycling helmet as she prepares to bike to the Kerry festival.
The Mayo woman will end her year as the winning Rose with a 242km run and cycle from her hometown of Shrule to the Dome in Tralee next week.
The former Philadelphia representative will trek through Galway, Ennis, Limerick, Bunratty and Castleisland in aid of charities Barretstown, Development Perspectives and Donal Walsh #LiveLife Again before crowning this year's winner of the famous Irish pageant later this month.
After travelling the world as part of her term as Rose of Tralee, Maria said she won't let the journey, dubbed the Trek2Tralee, get the better of her.
"I think it will be a personal highlight when I complete that," Maria told TV Now Magazine.
"Physically, I'm a little tired right now because of all the training, but mentally, not at all."
With her year-long reign coming to an end later this month, Maria hinted she may be making a move into broadcasting.
The bubbly brunette said she is "looking at projects" after being snapped up by celebrity talent agent Noel Kelly - who also represents fellow Rose of Tralee winner Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain.
While it is yet to be seen whether she follows in lecturer Aoibhinn's presenting footsteps, Maria insists she is in no rush to move onto any new ventures after handing back the crown.
"I did sign with NK Management and we're looking at a few projects but it's too early to say," Maria said.
"I'm excited to take some time to figure out what's next, but also eager for opportunities."
