Rory to celebrate at hometown course
BRITISH Open winner Rory McIlroy is set to make his victorious homecoming to the greens where it all began today.
The Co Down native is expected to return to Holywood Golf Club to show off his latest piece of silverware, the Claret jug.
The 25-year-old arrived at George Best Belfast City Airport yesterday afternoon following his success at the Open at Hoylake over the weekend.
Stephen Crooks, the pro at the Holywood club, said he wasn't surprised with the world number two's triumph in Liverpool.
"I was an assistant pro in Holywood 12 years ago, and he was a junior member, so I've known him since he was 11," he said.
"I had a friend who played on the tour and I told him about this kid, and I told him his management company need to sign this kid - which they never did," he said.
"I knew at that age, he was 12 or 13 that he was going to be big."
