Road safety blitz targets hundreds of drivers
Gardai conducted a road safety blitz in Dublin over the Easter weekend which saw hundreds of motorists being breath-tested.
Mandatory alcohol testing checkpoints were in operation at various locations in the city as part of Operation Surround.
In Phibsboro, 239 motorists were tested. There was one arrest. Four cars had no tax, three were in breach of lighting regulations and three drivers had no driving licence.
In Swords, three checkpoints tested 95 motorists, with all passing. Three checkpoints in Blackrock tested 153 drivers, again with all passing. Two cars were seized.
Separately gardai are investigating a fatal road accident in Stranorlar, Co Donegal at 2.50am yesterday. Warm tributes were paid to Kieran Doherty who was killed when struck by a car while walking home.
