Rex is a great guy but we're just pals, says Roz

They may have locked lips on screen but model Roz Purcell insists that she and Rex Ryan are just good friends.

"Rex is so lovely," the 22-year-old model says. "We met for the first time on the shoot and became besties -- he's such a nice guy. We're just friends though."

Roz and Rex (23), the eldest son of the late Gerry Ryan, got up close and personal in several blue lit scenes for a new music video, which was featured in yesterday's Herald.

The clips are pretty steamy but Roz says she didn't feel awkward filming the love scenes which feature in a new music video for Up, from This Club's Highlife album.

"No, it wasn't awkward or uncomfortable at all," the former Miss Universe Ireland said. "That's the thing, if you're an actor you just have to detach yourself from the part. It wasn't uncomfortable at all."

Roz and Rex are both students at the Gaiety School of Acting. "We both study there; he's doing the full-time acting course but we had never seen each other before the shoot. The Gaiety set the audition up, it's the first acting audition I've had and I got the part, so I was thrilled."

Tipperary native Roz says the highlight of the shoot was playing a gun-toting villain.

"Playing a badass was definitely my favourite part of the day. It sounds weird but it was a lot of fun. And the car chase scene was a lot of fun."

Roz is hopeful that the scenes from the video will help further her budding acting career.

"I don't have an acting agent. There are loads of great agencies in Dublin. I'm just trying to put together a show reel before I approach one. I'm doing a presenting course but acting is also something I'm interested in."

But Roz will be soaking up the sun as she heads to Lanzarote with her family. "I head over next week and I can't wait to get away from all the cold. My sister is home from Toronto. I haven't seen her in two years so it'll be great spending time with her and catching up. I think it'll be an emotional reunion."

The Beatles started a revolution back in the USSR

If ever a band has been well served by the literary world it's The Beatles. Practically every aspect of that revolutionary body of work has been dealt with in book form... or so one would have thought. From Hunter Davies' The Beatles, through Philip Norman's Shout, Bob Spitz's humongously detailed history and Ian McDonald's brilliant Revolution in the Head, which offered a musical and contextual analysis of every song they ever recorded, surely there's nothing left of interest to diehard fans of the Fabs. Well, think again.
