Revellers at Picnic give 400 tents to campaign
Over 400 tents, 150 sleeping mats and 100 pairs of wellies will help refugees after mass donations by Electric Picnic revellers last weekend.
Activist Roisin Garvey said she has been overwhelmed after a small suggestion she made to help the refugees stranded in Calais turned into a full-blown campaign. Some at the three-day festival dropped their tents at a collection point, while most were collected by volunteers.
"It was just three of us in a van who started (this). Then Panti Bliss and Glen Hansard tweeted about it and it went viral," she said.
The goods will be delivered to Calais on September 29 by Ireland Calais Refugee Solidarity.
Picnic guests also donated over 20 tents to The Simon Community.
