Radio stations join forces for new App
A HOST of radio stars turned out for the launch of the Irish Radioplayer, the first smartphone app to offer streams of all 43 stations in the country.
RTE's Claire Byrne, Keelin Shanley and Nicky Byrne joined forces with Spin 1088's Becki Miller and Ruth Egan of FM104 as well as Communications Minister Alex White to kick-start the service.
A partnership between the state broadcaster and the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI), the app is available from the Apple iTunes store and the Google Play Store.
"Listeners will benefit from having a quality stream of their favourite local, regional or national radio shows available, regardless of where they are," Mr White said.
"It's also an innovative way of promoting Irish stations in an increasingly competitive multi-platform environment."
IBI chairman John Purcell called the app a "game-changer in Irish Radio".
