Queue 'shambles' at dublin AIRPORT
BANK holiday tourists and travellers met with two-hour delays at Dublin Airport due to problems in immigration.
Airport staff handed out bottled water to tourists caught in lengthy queues.
More than 70,000 passengers were moving through the airport each day over the weekend. Sources described the queue as a "shambles" and blamed it on staffing numbers over the busy period.
Immigration controls are shared by the gardai and Department of Justice. A pilot project was introduced last year to bring in civilians to help out. A Dept of Justice spokeswoman acknowledged there were delays, but said civilians had been deployed "to assist in dealing with the queues".
"The pilot project of using civilians was deemed a success, and the full civilianisation of the operations in relation to immigration is the key," she added.
