Pub jobs fall by 7,000

ALMOST 7,000 full-time jobs have gone down the drain in the pub trade since 2009, new research has found.

The report from the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland, by Dublin City University economist Anthony Foley, said that this represented a 20pc fall in full-time employment in the sector.

The drop is due to a combination of declining alcohol consumption, reduced consumer spending and a shift to off-licence sales.
