Pervert had video of sex attack on ex
A "voyeur" faces up to 10 years in prison after his girlfriend found a videotape of him sexually assaulting his previous partner in her sleep.
The 36-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim, told gardai he was addicted to sex and had been undergoing special treatment in South Africa.
The video was found by his girlfriend as they were breaking up and she was packing up his property in their home.
The court also heard he has several previous convictions in another country, including one for videotaping children playing in a school yard from a parked van. He also has convictions for assault and drugs possession.
The man, who has a Dublin address, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to one count of sexual assault between April and November 2006.
A garda sergeant told Gerardine Small, prosecuting, that the man's girlfriend played the videotape after finding it among his things. It showed night-vision footage of him molesting his previous partner's genitals as she slept.
The tape was handed in to gardai who informed the victim and arrested the man. He said he had dated the victim for three years and she had been drinking on the night in question.
He admitted making the 30-minute-long tape, but said he had never shown it to anyone or made copies. He told gardai that making the tape turned him on but not watching it. But he admitted viewing it twice.
He claimed he was a "voyeur" and a "sex addict" and said he'd been referred to an institution in South Africa for treatment.
After the victim became aware of the assault she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and had trouble sleeping or trusting people, the court heard. She began to have nightmares and family relationships were affected.
Judge Katherine Delahunt said she wanted to see more evidence of the treatment the man claimed he had undergone and adjourned the case until next month.
