Pensioner in wheelchair dies after hit and run

Gardai are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident after an 87-year-old wheelchair user died three days after being struck by a white truck on the northside of the capital.

The tragic victim of the incident has been named locally as James 'Jimmy' Owens from the Cabra area of the city.

The collision occurred at Hanlon's Corner, on the North Circular Road, Dublin 7, at approximately 4.13pm on Tuesday, September 30 last.

TRUCK

The man was knocked out of his electric wheelchair by a white truck. It is believed to be a Mercedes.

The victim was rushed to the Mater Hospital, but passed away on Friday, October 3.

The driver of the truck failed to remain at the scene to speak to gardai.

Gardai wish to speak to the driver or any other person who can provide them with information, or who may have witnessed the incident.
