More than 200 jobs have been announced in two separate investments.

Malin, the Irish-based global life sciences company, is to base 10 companies in the country employing 200 people after it secured funds from the State bank and floated on the stock market.

And Lagan Brick is to create 30 jobs in Kingscourt in Co Cavan at one of its old manufacturing facilities following an upturn in industries in the Irish and British markets.

The factory will be the only one of its kind in Ireland.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny attended an event at the Irish Stock Exchange as Malin confirmed it has raised about 330 million euro from international investors as part of its flotation.

The company is planning to take stakes in businesses in the life sciences industry and work with them to achieve commercial and sustainable success.

Dr Adrian Howd, Malin's chief executive, said: "We are well-placed to achieve our goals of creating long term value for shareholders and improving patients' lives globally by building a leading international life sciences company with world class scientific, medical and business leadership from our Irish base."

Malin's development is being backed by a 50m euro investment by the State bank the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, established by Government at the end of last year.

Meanwhile, Tanaiste Joan Burton attended the official opening of Sun Life Financial's newly-expanded offices in Waterford and announced plans to expand the workforce from 350 to 400.

The financial services company offers protection and wealth products and services to customers around the world and has headquarters in the United States and Canada.
