Eric Cantona arrived in Dublin last night for a star-studded premiere of Ken Loach’s latest film ‘Looking for Eric’

.

The movie tells the story of a postman called Eric who, when his life spirals out of control, turns to his hero Cantona for inspiration. The film has received mixed reviews so far.

The Frenchman was greeted by hundreds of fans chanting ‘Ooh, aah Cantona’ at his arrival at the lighthouse cinema.

Cantona, famous for being the wild man of football, plays himself in the movie.

Loach faced stiff competition from directors including Ang Lee, Quentin Tarantino and Jane Campion at Cannes, with the Palme d'Or going to Michael Haneke's ‘The White Ribbon’.

Since leaving the pitch Cantona has taken up photography and art and is due to appear in a play directed by his wife. “It is always a surprise that people remember me,” said Cantona.
