Olympic hero Kenneth to become a dad
Olympic boxer Kenneth Egan is expecting his first child with fiancee Karen Sullivan.
The silver medallist popped the question to his other half at Christmas and much like their engagement announcement, the two have been gushing on social media about their baby news.
Karen took to Facebook to announce the exciting news.
"Scan done this morning all going good, we are delighted xxx," she wrote while also sharing snaps on Instagram.
The couple are set to marry next year.
Kenneth and Karen were together for a year before he won silver for Ireland at the Olympics six years ago (inset, right).
Karen featured in much of the high-profile coverage of Kenneth, proudly supporting her boyfriend with friends and family at home while he fought for Ireland in Beijing.
However, they split shortly after his return home due to the ensuing pressure and attention his sudden fame brought on their relationship.
Kenneth went on to have a number of high-profile relationships.
However, in his autobiography Kenny Egan - My Story, he spoke of his regret at his behaviour following the Olympics.
A source close to the couple said Kenneth loves children.
"They will be ecstatic about the news. Karen has always been there for Kenneth and this baby will bring them even closer," they said.
He has since trained to become an addiction counselor - and in June 2014, won a seat on South Dublin County Council as an elected representative for Fine Gael.
