Olympic hero Kenneth Egan welcomes first baby, Kate
Olympic boxer-turned politician Kenneth Egan has welcomed his first child into the world.
The Fine Gael councillor shared his delight at the birth of his baby girl.
His fiancee Karen O'Sullivan gave birth to their daughter Kate at 5.15am yesterday morning weighing a healthy 9lb 5oz.
"Kate welcomed into the world at 5.15am. Well done @Karen_Sullivan you are amazing," he wrote on Twitter.
"Thank you all so much for the well wishes, mammy and baby are doing really well. #parenthood."
The pair have are set to get married in 2016 having been together since last year, having put back their wedding which was originally scheduled for this past summer.
Kenneth proposed last Christmas Eve to Karen, with the couple expressing their excitement at the news on social media.
"She said yes," an elated Egan tweeted, before adding, "Thank you all for the well wishes, I'm a very happy man this morning, Merry Christmas and have a happy and peaceful New Year".
They have previously been in a relationship before his 2008 heroics at the Beijing Olympics.
Karen featured in much of the high-profile coverage of Kenneth, proudly supporting her boyfriend with friends and family at home while he fought for Ireland in Beijing.

However, they split shortly after his return home due to the ensuing pressure and attention his sudden fame brought on their relationship.
In his autobiography 'Kenny Egan - My Story' he unveiled the shocking truth of the aftermath of his win, his addictions to porn, booze and escort girls as he slid to rock bottom.
"Sometimes I wish Beijing never happened because it seems cheap to sell yourself for just a single piece of silver," he said.
Trained addiction counsellor Kenneth won a seat on South Dublin County Council as an elected representative for Fine Gael in June 2014.
