No hypnobirth for mum-to-be Maia

Broadcaster Maia Dunphy has revealed she won't be going drug-free like Jennifer Maguire when she gives birth this summer.

The RTE presenter is having a baby boy with her comedian husband Johnny Vegas this July but she wants it to be as painless as possible.

"I'm an anxiety-ridden freak and I'm like, 'Show me the drugs'. I want medicalisation and control," she told the Herald.

"I'm nearly six months along now so I've a little bit of time left. The first topic I ever did on RTE, we did a whole bit on hypnobirthing which we cut out but I won't be doing it when my time comes.

"I think you have to know your own personality and I'm not sure I could be one of those people. It's going to come out some way and may as well be as pain-free as possible," she added.

While she is busy having meetings with RTE to chat about a new project, the 38-year-old revealed that she doesn't think What Women Want will be returning to our screens.

"I'm in talks with RTE at the moment. I think What Women Want is kind of done now and I feel like I've covered all the big topics," she said. "I'm trying to move in a slightly different direction, because you run the risk of going into tenuous territory and we've covered sex, love, marriage, relationships and everything in between.

"So I'd like to try and open it up to broader topics and hopefully do something before the baby arrives.

"The plan is to create something new that maybe we could continue on afterwards," she added.

Maia was speaking at the launch of 7up's Ideas Hub which is an exciting initiative to uncover Ireland's top '7-word-ideas'.
