Nico's start-up takes a slice of the food market

NICO Olivieri spotted a gap in the Irish food business and seized on the opportunity with his wife Fabiene to set up catering company Leaves.
The company, based at the Spade Enterprise Centre in Smithfield, specialises in delicious healthy food for both corporate functions and supermarket retailers.
"We started for a very simple reason, Irish people are becoming more health conscious but the current offerings are either healthy and bland or tasty but not good for you," the Italian chef turned business man told the Herald.
Leaves began trading last December and the hard-working pair soon realised that the growth potential for their company was huge.
They created a line of ready meals with a difference for supermarket chain Fresh.
"We use tasty, Irish ingredients and we don't use unnecessary fats," explained Nico, whose artisan food products have proved a hit with customers.
Leaves was helped out with a low cost loan from charity organisation Inner City Enterprise (ICE). ICE is a Dublin-based group that aims to help smaller city businesses find their feet in the market.
"They were there for us at a crucial moment when things were taking off and we needed extra support," Nico said.
