New Rose's biggest splurge was a Louis Vuitton handbag after getting all-clear from cancer
New Rose of Tralee Elysha Brennan has revealed she splashed out €600 on a Louis Vuitton bag after getting the all-clear from cancer.
The 22-year-old medical student told how she saved hard for the bag called the Neverfull.
"It's my most lavish purchase, but I feel it has paid for itself," said Elysha, who is from Bettystown in Co Meath.
The student was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma weeks before her repeat Leaving Cert, but has been in remission for the past two-and-a-half years.
She is now hoping to become a paediatric oncologist in the future, and also wants to pen a book about her cancer journey to help other people.
Elysha opened up about her spending habits in The Sunday Times yesterday. She described herself as a "spender" rather than a saver, and said that money burns a hole in her pocket.
She revealed that she did not have a part-time job, while studying at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI).
"I don't have the time. You sleep, eat and study for medicine. I don't get a grant, so my parents are supporting me," she explained.
Meanwhile, she also spoke of how a lot of her friends are struggling through college.
"One worked her way through first year and then failed her exams. The workload in medicine is all-consuming.
"There should be some form of financial support for students, especially those on heavy courses," she said.
She added the most lucrative work she has done is babysitting for neighbours.
