New 'food in the city festival' is launched in north Dublin
Thousands of foodies and city dwellers in search of a new dining experience are expected to attend the inaugural Smithfield and Stoneybatter Food Festival.
Viking tapas, whiskey tasting and a Joyce banquet are just some of the experiences on offer this weekend, and organisers said that the new 'food in the city' event has something to satisfy everybody's palate.
It runs from Friday through to Sunday, and will take place in restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets and hotels around the area.
"Smithfield and Stoneybatter have seen real growth in the number of restaurants and cafes in recent years, much to the delight of the local residents," said Tourism Minister Pascal Donohoe (inset) at the event's launch.
Meanwhile, speaking to the Herald last night, he said that the retention of the 9pc Vat rate was a matter that is hugely important to everybody who is involved in food, and the general service sector. Budget talks are continuing this week.
