New dad threatened to kill his sister-in-law, court told

THIS is the new father accused of threatening to kill his sister-in-law and of smashing up her car.

William Maughan (29) has denied making the threats or breaking the windscreen of his sister-in-law's black Ford Fiesta.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges before Tallaght District Court and the case has been set down for hearing in six weeks time.

The accused, with an address at Cushlawn Park in Tallaght but now believed to be living in Co Galway, is charged with threatening to kill or cause serious harm to his sister-in-law.

The alleged incident took place at Brookfield Enterprise Centre, Rossfield Avenue, Tallaght on July 1 last year.

Maughan is also charged with one count of criminal damage, to his sister-in-law's 1998-registered vehicle.

Garda Sergeant Bernard Jones said it will be alleged that Maughan smashed the windscreen of his sister-in-law's car during an argument where he also made threats to kill her.

Tallaght court heard the DPP has directed summary disposal of the matters in the District Court and Judge James McDonnell said he would accept jurisdiction.

Defence solicitor Padraig O'Donovan said his client has strongly denied the allegations.

Judge McDonnell adjourned the matter for hearing to a date in June.
