New chef training
THE Irish Restaurants Association of Ireland has proposed a 'fast track' chef training scheme that could take another 1,000 people off the live register.
The organisation said that the restaurant sector is facing a severe shortage of chefs.
The restaurant sector is willing to come together with the likes of the Department of Social Protection, Failte Ireland and FAS (or the new further education and training authority SOLAS) to give employers the financial incentives to take on apprentices and protect their social welfare entitlements.
There are 180,000 people already employed in the sector.
